10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects
Spring cleaning is not always exciting for a lot of us. But it is important. As the winter near an end and we start looking forward to spring, something within us tells us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and getting rid of things we’ve piled up over the winter months.
But who says spring cleaning is only for the interior of a house?
The exterior of your home could likely use a little tidying up after a cold, dreary winter, too!
It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning
Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will really improve the curb appeal of your home in Aurora, and, even more important, will provide much-needed care and maintenance that will save you money over the years ahead.
1. Gutter Cleaning
Spring is the best time of year to clean out your gutters, because so many of leaves and debris pile up during the fall and winter months. Pollen is at its highest during spring, making a huge mess in your gutters if they are not properly cleaned.
Plus, bugs and critters are looking for places to build homes during spring, so having your gutters cleaned out will help to stop an infestation in your home.
Gutter cleaning will consist of cleaning the inside and outside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and rust stains and restoring them to a like-new appearance.
2. Window Cleaning
Home window cleaning is necessary for spring cleaning. First floor windows will not cause you much of an issue, but any second and third floor windows are trickier to reach.
Cleaning windows by hand is a hard job, and will need a lot of supplies, not to mention climbing up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your home’s windows is the perfect solution to get the panes and the outer frame clean.
3. Pressure Washing
You aren’t going to want clean gutters and windows on a dirty house. That means you will want to pressure wash your home too!
Pressure washing is fast, effective and affordable. You can clean your house, patio furniture, patios, wood and stone porches and walkways with very little effort. It will knock off dirt and mud so they will not stain your home, and you can also stop the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.
4. Driveway Cleaning
Clearing off your home’s driveway and giving it a good cleaning may seem strange because you will be driving on it, but, a clean, maintained driveway can increase the curb appeal of your home.
A professional pressure washer can do wonders when it comes to driveway cleaning, whether it’s pavement, asphalt, stone or some other material. Also think about adding a gravel border to your home’s driveway to really make it stand out!
5. Patio Cleaning
Your home’s patio probably gets the most use in the summer months, so it’s easy to overlook it during the winter since you are not doing any outdoor entertaining, leisure or grilling. Your patio can be in pretty rough shape the first time you walk onto it in spring.
Soap and water – and a little elbow grease – are sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if you notice signs of mold or mildew, you need to think about a more aggressive option, like professional power washing, to ensure that friends and family can safely enjoy your patio all summer long.
6. Roof Cleaning
Algae and moss are common roof problems in Aurora. While you’re cleaning the exterior of your home, it’s an excellent time to clean your home’s roof too, but you will have to use a different method than what you use for the rest of your home’s exterior.
If you start to notice streaks on your home’s roof, algae is probably the cause. Moss is fairly obvious, too. These contaminants cannot be wiped off shingles, nor can you power wash the roof. Both of these methods will destroy the shingles on your home’s roof.
The best method for roof cleaning is to mist the shingles with a half-bleach, half-water solution and then let it sit. This solution will eliminate any organisms on your home’s roof without reducing its lifespan.
7. Clean up the Front
The front of your home is going to be what most people passing by see, so make the best impression possible for visitors and for yourself! Coming home to a well-maintained exterior will instantly improve your day, and will probably inspire you to spend more time outside.
Clean your porch with soap and water or a good power wash. Clean cobwebs and dirt off of the front door, and consider painting it for a fresh look! Clean unnoticed areas including the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.
8. Organize Outdoor Tools
You will be spending more time outside, so spring is a great opportunity to organize the things you will need for outdoor work.
Gardening tools as well as pool care equipment need to all have a specific area outside your home – a place that it is safe from weather and not in sight so it is not a constant eyesore to anyone. Spending the time to organize in the spring will allow you to enjoy the exterior of your home much more during the time of year that you spend the most time outside.
9. Lawn Care & Landscaping
Your yard, trees and bushes can make a big impact on the overall look of your home.
Get rid of weeds near the exterior of your flower beds and walkways and driveway, till up places where you might be planting later on and brush off walkways. You can also spray pre-emergent weed poison to make lawn maintenance easier on yourself throughout the summer. Trim all bushes too.
10. Clean the Grill
After being unused for several months, your grill could need a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food from your grill are unappetizing, but even worse they can also make you and your family ill.
Wet it down to remove ash, then scrub the grates with a scrubber (so you do not leave behind metal particles that can get into food) and a basic detergent or degreaser.
You can probably finish all of these projects over the course of a few weekends but it is going to be a lot of tough work. Instead, give us a call!
